Nielson Construction Preserving Millsite Dam

September 21, 2017

The goal of this project is to bring the dam up to current standards. The preservation project will take an estimated 72k man hours, with an expected completion date of November 2018.

The Ferron reservoir provides water to most of the community in Ferron, Utah. The project requires a highly coordinated effort to ensure satisfaction of all involved parties. The owner and funding agency for this project is the Ferron Reservoir & Canal Company and the State of Utah’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

The project will impact both the Millsite Golf Course and the Millsite State Park. The golf course will be reconfigured to fit the new toe of the dam that will shift out approximately 100 feet.  The State Park campground and boat ramp is located on the upstream side of the dam where the dam will be raised four feet, which will cause a portion of the park to inundate with water. Because of this, a modification was included to accommodate the increase of water to the Millsite State Park.
